Star and Patriot double up in Golden Jacket
Some of Ireland's top trackers were denied their outing in the semi-finals of the Best Car Parks Gold Cup due to the cancellation of Saturday's meeting at Shelbourne but our leading stayers completed a great double in the heats of the Golden Jacket.
First up over 714 metres at Crayford was the Dolores Ruth-trained Boylesports Star which gave a tremendous performance in winning Heat 4. He came from well back in the early stages to sweep to the front and he won by three lengths in 45.81.
In the next heat it was the turn of the Paul Hennessy-trained Jaytee Patriot and he also looked in trouble early as he was in wars on all the early bends. But he, too, produced a big surge over the second half of the race and ran out a most impressive three-and-a-quarter-length winner from Newlawn Simon in 45.87. The semi-finals will be run next Saturday morning and they will be live on SIS in the betting offices.
On the home front the big race of the night was the final of the Dublin Coach 525 at Limerick and the fastest semi-final winner Fancy Nancy obliged once again.
Owned by Aine Murphy from Hospital, Fancy Nancy took over from Tucker Foley along the back and then held the big late run of Liscahane Ted by half a length in 28.99.
The semi-finals of the Gain Cup were run at Curraheen and the fastest winner was the Owen McKenna-trained Ballymac Tomasso as he showed his appreciation for an inside draw when breaking fast and leading all to head home Ballymac Scala by three lengths in 28.43.
Liam Dowling, owner of Ballymac Scala, has a second finalist in Amanita Chic which got up late to win narrowly from Droopys Damo in 28.55.
