There had been a widespread fear that the lengthy closure of Shelbourne Park would have a lasting effect on the supply of greyhounds and also the crowds.

But the early signs have been most encouraging and within a week of its reopening we already have the situation of full cards for the three meetings remaining this week. What's more, the quality of runner is impressive, while the reports from management suggest that restaurant bookings are rolling in at an impressive rate.

Two major competitions will commence next week with the Gain Corn Cuchulainn heats on Friday and then the Shelbourne Open Puppy 550 on Saturday. UK trainer Carol Weatherall plans to have two runners in the latter competition with both Calico Blackjack and Inky Holdem having trials over the track on Tuesday and both moved well.

While Graham Holland is still on Derby duty in the UK, wife Nicky has been having plenty of success at home and she can be among the winners again tonight at Shelbourne with Fantasy Grace (9.13) and Droopys Cabaye (9.58) two bright prospects. The latter has promised a lot in his early races but hasn't managed to win in ten outings. He has the talent to land this contest.
