Shay the favourite as Tierna bows out
Irish-trained greyhounds continue to dominate the betting on the Star Sports English Derby - they occupy six of the top ten places in the betting in advance of Saturday's quarter-finals at Towcester.
The new favourite is PJ Fahy's Tyrur Shay which is a best price of 13/2 following his record-breaking run last weekend.
He is now based in England for the duration of the classic and he is evens favourite to win his heat in the third round. His main rival there will surely be that terrific near veteran Ballymac Matt, one of four Liam Dowling-trained dogs left in the competition.
The top of the betting reads 13/2 Tyrur Shay, 15/2 Paul Hennessy's Priceless Brandy and 10/1 Graham Holland's Clares Rocket; the other Irish runners in the top ten are Hennessy's Jaytee Jet, Holland's Garryvoe Bobby and Dowling's College Paradise.
There has been one withdrawal from the third round. The Dazzling Syndicate's Razldazl Tierna, trained by Carol Weatherall, will not be running in Heat 7 due to lameness.
Meanwhile, Good News and Native Chimes are the 7/4 joint favourites in the betting lists in advance of tomorrow's Kerry GAA Supporters Race of Champions final at Tralee and it is then 9/2 Cahir Castle and Witches Belle with Brandyandbaileys and Killinan Rosie on the 10/1 mark.
The Irish Independent Irish Laurels will close to entries on Monday in advance of the first-round heats on Saturday week; entries have been slow coming in for the classic, which boasts a winner's prize of €30,000.
No doubt there will be the usual late rush of entries but only seven names were in the book yesterday evening, including Kilgraney Ace, Kilgraney Denver, Toker Forest and Badminton Rua.
