Rockybay has an ideal draw in Riverside Oscar semi-final
Curraheen Park provides the main Irish action on the track this evening and the excellent card features the semi-finals of the €10,000 Riverside Oscar Open 525.
In many ways this is a preview of the Irish Independent Irish Laurels, with the action over the same course and distance.
Many of the 12 semi-finalists will figure at the top of the Laurels betting when the classic begins next month.
Curraheen favours early paced runners and one that surely fits that bill is the Kieran Lynch-trained Postman Pat (9.35) in the opening heat.
It will be a surprise if he fails to make the running but can he then resist the likely big finishes of Killinan Rosie, Coolavanny Pet and Kilgraney Ace? Don't be surprised if Coolavanny defies her unfavourable trap five draw.
Creamery Bale look the early pacer to beat in the second heat but he will find it difficult to get across the field to the bend. The draw has been favourable to Kieran Lynch's Rockybay Rover and he can prove too powerful for his rivals on the run-in.
The quarter-finals of the BIF Produce Stakes will be run at Clonmel tomorrow and the best bet of the evening is UK raider Vahsel Bay (9.15) in Heat 2 where he can lead home Ballybough Dad.
Likely winners of the other heats are Crossfield Kate (9.0), Dog Mac Arthure (9.30) and Drive On Razer (9.45).
There will be ten Irish runners in English Derby Trial Stakes at Towcester this evening. Ballymac Matt is the big name on show.
