Perfect draw should see Cabra Buck home

Despite having withdrawn his runners from Thursday's meeting due to a virus in the kennels, trainer Graham Holland reported yesterday that his five runners will take their place in the first round of the €20,000 Tote Gold Cup at Shelbourne Park tonight.

"It was a 24-hour virus," said Holland. "We can't bring them out due to the weather and we have no power, but they will run and, hopefully, will be fine".

Virtually every other trainer has had similar problems with the weather, so a few surprise results can't be ruled out.

Nevertheless, it will be a surprise if Holland's Derby runner-up of last September, Cabra Buck (8.04), fails to deliver in the opening heat. He has the perfect six draw and his early pace should carry him clear into the back straight and on to victory over Ecclestone and Melodys Diamond.

The bookmakers have installed Rosemary Price's Deanridge Pennys (10.30) as their 6/1 ante-post favourite, but he faces a really difficult task in Heat 6, where he has five very dangerous rivals. He would prefer further, but has the class to overcome the likes of Glenanore Dancer.

Vying for second favouritism at 10/1 are the aforementioned Cabra Buck and kennel companion General Wolf (10.0).

The latter also has a big task with Isabels Boy, Farloe Calvin and Locnamon Bridie all capable of making him go.

If there is value in the ante-post market, then the 12/1 about Holland's Sidarian Rhythm (8.18) could be it. He has been splendidly impressive and his early pace can prove crucial in Heat 2. He appeals as one of the bets of the night.

Frances O'Donnell's Ardfert Thunder (10.15) is not well drawn with the inside-seeking Clydal Jack and Hot Pursuit drawn on his outer in Heat 5. But his strength might prove crucial.

Guinness Flyer

The final of the Guinness Trophy will be run at Curraheen Park this evening and Nellies Flyer (9.55) can land the prize for owner Michael O'Driscoll and trainer John Kiely.

This fast starter is a 5/2 favourite with the firms and that could be value.

Crossfield Felix and Ballycowen Moll look the main dangers.

Pick 7

The Pick 7 pool will be guaranteed to €25,000. It might pay to follow Sidarian Rhythm (Leg 1), Millies Tavern (Leg 4), Kingsmill Sky (Leg 5) and Burgess Rumble (Leg 6).
