Patriot and Star shine in Jacket semi-finals
The Irish-trained challengers dominated proceedings in the semi-finals of the Ladbrokes Golden Jacket at Crayford.
They now appear to be in prime position for the final of the 714 metres competition, which will be run tomorrow week and will be televised live by Sky Sports.
The Paul Hennessy- trained Jaytee Patriot set the pulses racing as he produced a phenomenal run to win the opening heat.
He was in last position for the first half of the race, but went into overdrive on the second circuit as he picked off runner after runner and led late when beating Rubys Razzle by a length in 45.45.
It was a remarkable effort from the dog owned by John Turner.
The second heat was won by Romany Rouge in 45.77 as she led home Jimbobjoe by a length-and-a-half.
The third heat saw the Dolores Ruth-trained Boylesports Star lead all the way when winning by three lengths from Ferryforth Fran in a best time of 45.39.
Down in Curraheen there was some mighty action, where the final of the Gain Cup A1 was prefaced by some high-profile trials.
The Gain Cup was won by the Liam Dowling owned and trained Ballymac Scala as she flew from the traps and won by a short head from the fast-finishing Gwan Slab in 28.64.
There was huge interest in the pre-racing trials at Curraheen, where a number of the Best Car Parks Gold Cup semi-finalists were trialled.
Unfortunately, the JJ Fennelly-trained Burgess Popeye broke a hock and so will not be able to contest the semi-finals.
Of the semi-finalists trialled over 525 yards, the fastest was Owen McKenna's Farloe Joey as he clocked 28.14.
Next best was Garryvoe Bobby in 29.23.
