Paradise perfectly placed to smash record
Paradise Madison is likely to go off as short as 1/3 to win the final of the €5,000 Open 575 at Shelbourne Park tonight, but if the weather is favourable through the day, it could be possible to collect off him at 6/4.
Who, you might ask, might be stupid enough to offer such generous odds against a dog that looks to have the final at his mercy? Paddy Power, no less, but there is the slight qualification that he must break the track record for the bet to be landed.
Last week he went within six spots of the 30.88 record, which is held by his litter brother Mall Brandy, but the track was quite dead then and this dog is definitely capable of a run below 30.80 with a clear run.
The first priority for owner Dave Buckley will be winning the race, but a trap two draw is absolutely ideal for this flying machine, with Vulturi sure to stick close to the rail, while Vimmerby will move wide early from three. Sidarian Lisa and Shopping Basket may struggle to get a run early, and Whaoo Wheoo will be staying strongly.
A very confident vote is awarded to Paradise Madison (10.15), but Vulturi is nominated for the forecast and 'without' punters.
The top young dogs make their seasonal appearance in the heats of the Joe Dunne Memorial and the meeting of Deanridge Pennys and Sidarian Blaze (9.30) can be a highlight. The early pace of Sidarian can decide this battle.
Robert Gleeson's Kingsmill Sky (9.45) is put forward as the banker of the heats, while Tyrur Arthur (10.0) may see off the highly regarded Jaytee Seville in the final qualifier.
On the supporting card, Tyrur Lazarus (7.50) can get us off to a great start in a 575 contest.
The heats of the Vetsearch Open 525 will be run at Limerick and Paul Hennessy's De Real McCoy (9.40) will take all the beating if he can repeat last week's Shelbourne effort.
In the other heats, Mind The Net (9.55) and Parish Hero (10.10) look the ones to beat.
Tyrur Lazarus 7.50 Shelbourne
De Real McCoy 9.40 Limerick
Kingsmill Sky 9.45 Shelbourne
Tyrur Arthur 10.0 Shelbourne
For the second week in a row, Airfield Paudie (9.15) and Sir Paddy will meet when they contest the second heat in the third round of the Red Mills Unraced Stake at Clonmel tomorrow.
Last week Sir Paddy came from almost four lengths behind at halfway to collar Airfield close home for a half-length decision.
However, the trap draw would appear to favour Denis O'Malley's Airfield on this occasion, though Cabra Sue could also play a significant role.
Bet of the evening can be Fraser Black's Droopys Oddysey (9.30) in the third heat, where he can benefit from a clearer run to the bend, while in the other heats Liam Butler's Cahernaheena Lad (9.0) and Richard Forest's Inslips Dino (9.45) can pay to follow.
The Pick 7 Jackpot at Shelbourne tonight will be guaranteed to €15,000 and will operate on the seven races from the third to the ninth.
