TWO of the top marathon runners across the water will be in the line-up for the Ted Hegarty Marathon over 1,010 yards, which start at Harold's Cross on Friday night.

The traditional December marathon competition invariably produces some top- class racing, and the entry for this year's event looks very strong. Entries close this morning but there will certainly be 24 and perhaps even 36 for the event.

Barley Bussell and Aayamzabella are the two runners from across the water, but the latter will be officially an Irish runner as he is now under the care of Karol Ramsbottom, who also has Garryglass Jerry in the event.

Aayamzabella was beaten by Barley Bussell at Nottingham last week, but had previously set a new track record at Sittingbourne, equalling the mark at Newcastle.

The performance of the British-trained dogs in the Night of Stars marathons at the weekend would suggest that our stayers are superior, and our leading contenders include Lookusup, Plutos Rena, Handonthefan and White Tip Lady.

Entries also close today for the Fast Trap Tote Gold Collar, which will be run in conjunction with the Hegarty event; among the leading contenders are Night of Stars winner Ballymac Niall, Pay The Lolly, Mays King, Ballyhoe Elsa, Gizmo Classic, Head For Fame, Townspark Tucker, Fifo and Dragon Shield.

Despite his semi-final defeat, Graham Holland's Sidarian Blaze remains the favourite to win the final of the Comerford Cakes National Puppy Stake at Shelbourne Park on Saturday.

Sidarian was run out of it close home by Peter Cronin's Borneo, but in the final betting the latter is quoted at 6/1 while Sidarian Blaze is best priced 11/8 by Boylesports.

Gerry Holian's Emers Superstar, which finished third in the same heat, is the 7/2 third favourite, best priced by Paddy Power.

Paddy Power also go biggest price about Boylesports Hero at 5/1 and this fella runs in the ownership of Boylesports' MD John Boyle – they quote the dog at 4/1!

The full betting on the final is: 11/8 Sidarian Blaze, 7/2 Emers Superstar, 5 Boylesports Hero, 6 Borneo, 8 Blenheim Tricks, 20 Cashen Maureen.

The Greyhound & Petworld Kingdom Derby is the most valuable end-of-season event at Tralee and invariably is a hot competition. Entries close today at 2.0 and it is shaping up like a 24-dog competition. Entries to 061 448057.
