Oaks heroine Belle out of Laurels
Witches Belle, winner of the Sporting Press Irish Oaks at Shelbourne last Saturday, is in season and so will miss the Irish Independent Irish Laurels, which starts at Curraheen Park tomorrow evening.
She was due to contest Heat 2 from trap three but was withdrawn yesterday. Word from racing manager Brian Collins is that a reserve will run in her place, but this cannot be confirmed until weigh-in.
Boylesports are the only firm to price up the event as yet and they make the Pat Buckley-trained Droopys Nine and Graham Holland's Sidarian Eska their 10/1 joint favourites.
The former is my outright fancy, but I would worry about Eska's lack of racing experience as he goes into the Laurels with just one race under his belt.
Other leading prices are: 12 Leave At Dawn, Quietly, Rural Hawaii, 14 Farloe Rumble, Theres The Belle, 16 Gyp Rosetti, Imperial Express, Riverside Oscar, 20 bar.
Top action tonight will be in the Howard Wallace & Francie Murray Longford Derby where four second-round heats are down for decision.
One that impressed in the first round was Malawi Bold (8.36), which was behind early last week but finished strongly to lead late. He has a tough task in the first heat with Stefans Dazzler and Deanridge Wazzo among his rivals but he may repay support.
Kieran Morgan's Orange Theresa (8.48) can lead home Drumsna Ravan in the second heat while John McGee's Skywalker Rossa (9.0) and Pat Lynch's Motorbar Welcome (9.12) can also win their heats.
