The prize-fund for the Irish Greyhound Derby is set to be boosted with a €1,000,000, three-year deal.
Current sponsors BoyleSports - who originally took over as sponsors of the country's biggest classic on a three-year agreement - are set to stay on, with the new deal set to be officially announced at Shelbourne Park at lunchtime today.
This would suggest that the winner's prize will be increased significantly from the €125,000 that was earned by Rural Hawaii last year.
There is another major change in the Boylesports Irish Derby schedule, with the final due to be run a week later than in recent years. In recent times the Derby final has been staged the day before the All-Ireland football final and this has caused huge problems for visitors from abroad and the provinces in acquiring accommodation in the city.
The final this year will be run on Saturday, September 23 with the first round starting on Thursday, August 17.
