'Man' can deliver Juvenile success
It is invariably one of the great nights of the year and a smashing crowd is anticipated at Shelbourne Park tonight for a programme that comprises the 13 first-round heats in the Dublin Coach Juvenile Derby.
The early arrivals for tomorrow's BoyleSports Derby final will be there to assess the quality of the young stars of the future and a few tasty deals will likely be struck during the evening.
New stars will emerge over the next five weeks but it will be a surprise if the name of Man Twenty One doesn't figure prominently in the destination of the major prizes.
A week ago he treated the Newbridge crowd to a magnificent performance as he won the Texacloth Juvenile Derby and he should thrive in the spaces of Shelbourne Park. He goes in Heat 6 and can lead home this opposition.
Trainer Pat Buckley goes into this stake with quite a team as he attempts to do the double following the success of Droopys Wilbury last year.
His major players can be Drive On Mike and Borna Gin while Mary O'Connor's Minor Mike could be one for the long haul.
Another meeting worth mentioning tonight is the Langton Hotel/TSC Derby at Kilkenny. It is the centrepiece of an attractive card which also includes three other finals.
The Langton Derby has been a good event for trainer Murt Leahy and the local handler has three of the six finalists.
Strong cases can be made for all three but the vote goes to Dutch Dream to land the prize for owners Pat Loughlin and Pat Scully.
