Linehan and Holland have Stars doubles
The sixth annual Night of Stars lived up to all expectations on Saturday at Shelbourne with the eight feature races producing a host of high-class performances with the odd major shock thrown in.
Happiest man on the night was surely Blarney trainer John Linehan who brought two runners to the meeting and returned home with a pair of winners.
His Droopys Harbour was positively brilliant when winning the Droopys Roddick Bitch 525. After beating Coolavanny Pet by two and a half lengths in 28.36, trainer Linehan announced that the bitch had just run her last race.
Three races later Linehan was back on the podium after Droopys Noah had caught Holycross Lad close home in an identical 28.36 in the BIF 525.
Graham Holland also had a double with Clonbrien Hero adding the BoyleSports 550 to his Produce Stakes, Laurels and St Leger successes, though the Laurels victory is still the subject of an IGB inquiry.
He won by three lengths from Coolavanny Mason and the trainer then won the concluding Track Bookmakers 600 as Sonic won very easily from Black Eyed Peppa in 32.41.
Ballykett Beauty and Searchforahero sprang 14/1 and 12/1 upsets in the distance races while Maireads Spring won the Droopys Nidge 575 and Butterbridge Bex was an 8/1 winner of the Ted Hegarty 350.
