Jones in the Sprint Cup driving seat
With three of the remaining 12 dogs under his charge, including the favourite Heisman, Carrickmacross trainer Laurence Jones is in the driving seat in advance of the Bar One Racing Irish Sprint Cup semi-finals at Dundalk tonight.
Jones owns the three dogs in partnership with his brother Brian, a leading greyhound vet, and they have long harboured an ambition to win the Sprint Cup at their local Dundalk track. They are unlikely to have a better opportunity of winning the two-bend classic.
Heisman is the 3/1 favourite with the sponsors to land the €20,000 winner's prize and he certainly has done nothing wrong so far. He is unbeaten in his three outings and two weeks back established a new track record of 20.94 for the 400 yards.
He contests the first semi-final and can lead home Forest Natalee and Riverside Chip into next Friday's final.
Graham Holland, who won this classic with Cambushmore back in 2012, has the likely winner of the second semi in the Larry O'Rourke-owned Fleetwood Lee. He has really adapted well to the circuit and was far from disgraced when third behind Heisman last week.
Likely dangers in this contest are English challenger Fweshfromthesesh and Michael Enright's Aulton Jet.
