The provincial circuit provides the main fare this evening with Shelbourne's Night of Stars meeting then commanding all the attention tomorrow night.

News on the Night of Stars is that there has been a withdrawal from the Track Bookmakers 600 with Tadhg Buckley pulling Velvet John Joe out of the contest due to being off colour. This race, incidentally, provides one of the highlights of the night with the respective Irish and English Derby finalists Sonic and Murrays Act set to clash.

Meanwhile, there was an encouraging result to the ECC Timber Puppy Derby final at Towcester on Wednesday when Brendan Matthews' Innocent Times finished second to Magical Bale which was bred by the Derby-winning Guilfoyle family.

The most significant event this evening can be the heats of the Red Mills Unraced Bitch Stake at Tralee. These events invariably produce a few future stars and the Cork team of Sheila Spillane and JJ Fennelly have three very interesting Burgess entries.

For years Paddy Glennon and his brother Mick were iconic figures at Longford track and they will be high in the thoughts of all at the north midlands track this evening when the final of the Glennon Memorial tops the card.

David Murray has a strong candidate in Minnies Harp which comes in with a three-from-three record. The daughter of Ballymac Eske can make it four from Consult Me First.

Also tonight the final of the Mary Ramsbottom Memorial will be run at Kilkenny where Trumera Wood looks the one to beat.
