The Irish Greyhound Board has delivered on its promise to substantially increase the prize-money grants by announcing that they will rise by 25pc from October 1.

In the wake of the sale of Harold's Cross Stadium a substantial increase was promised and this rise will be warmly welcomed by all sectors of the Irish greyhound industry.

IGB chairman Phil Meaney said, "The increase will provide for an annual prize-money total of more than €9 million and will also further support the re-homing of retired greyhounds as a percentage of prize-money matched by IGB is assigned to the Irish Retired Greyhound Trust."

The draws were made yesterday for the Sporting Press Oaks and the Dublin Coach Juvenile Derby which commence tomorrow and Friday at Shelbourne.

The entry for the Oaks ended up at 78 and the first ten heats of the bitch classic will be run tomorrow with the remaining two heats being run as the opening two races on the Derby final card on Saturday.
