Hot favourites blow rivals away
the hot favourites obliged in the two major finals on the tracks on Saturday with Cabra Hurricane and Bakery Lane romping to all-the-way successes at Waterford and Drumbo Park respectively.
Cabra Hurricane, trained by Pat Guilfoyle for Paul Scally, again flew from traps in the final of the Gain Select Stakes at Kilcohan Park and he always controlled the contest.
He was chased all the way by Crossfield Will but kept going strongly and won by two lengths in 28.29. Newinn Lester was three lengths back in third.
Guilfoyle then confirmed that Cabra Hurricane is entered for the Night of Stars 525 at Shelbourne next Saturday but revealed that his Derby runner-up Magical Bale will not contest the Night of Stars 550 due to a slight injury.
Up at Drumbo, the final of the Raymart Gold Cup produced a very easy winner in Bakery Lane as he again got it right at trap rise and never saw a rival.
Trained by Ollie Bray for June Maguire, Bakery Lane was clear from Monleek Colorado to the bend and won by four and a half lengths from his market rival Monleek Colorado in 28.43.
Robbies Phantom was five lengths back in third.
Entries for the Night of Stars close at 1pm today.
