Holland's 'Macaroon' cruises home
It was a super weekend for trainer Graham Holland as he won the final of the Shelbourne Open 600 with Macaroon Cruz while he was responsible for three of the second-round winners in the Barking Buzz St Leger at Limerick.
Macaroon Cruz, owned by Scotsman Kevin Lees, had quite a battle with Enable in the Shelbourne final but he shut off Enable at the third bend and then drew clear for a four-length verdict in a very fast 32.01.
The Brendan Matthews-owned Pennys Koopa won the final of the A1 525 when beating Ballymac Noah by a length and a half in 28.43, while there were great runs from Tarsna Dow Jones and BoyleSports Joy as they won their respective heats of an open 525 in 28.34 and 28.38.
Holland provided the two fastest winners in the Leger as Lenson Blinder led all in 29.54 when beating kennel companion Clonbrien Hero, while Holland's other winners were Totos Park in 29.57 and Nice Charmer in 29.87.
Just four went to traps for Heat 3 but it was a thriller as David Murray's Gurteen Feather went clear and then held off Clonbrien Prince by three parts of a length in 29.61.
