A total of 138 greyhounds went into the draw for the BoyleSports Irish Derby and the 23 first-round heats will be run between Friday and Saturday nights at Shelbourne.

Ante-post favourite is the Angela Harrison-trained UK challenger Droopys Verve.

Harrison's charge is set to contest Heat 9 on Friday when he will come up against Frisky Luck and Cashen Kuba in what should to a thriller.

The format for the Derby is that four will qualify from each heat along with the four fastest fifth-placed finishers to make 96 entries for the second round.

Sprint Cup

Meanwhile, the final of the €20,000 Bar One Racing Irish Sprint Cup will be run at Dundalk tonight.

Martin Lanney-trained Dorotas Del Mar is likely to off as the favourite.

He was most impressive when leading all the way in the semi-finals and he will be very hard to beat.

The likely dangers are Nick Turner's Our Boy Junior and Cathal McGhee's Ardnasool Jet but the likelihood is Del Mar will credit his dam with a fourth classic winner.
