'Grangeview' can ace Laurel test
The remaining 18 greyhounds in the Friends & Supporters of Cork Greyhound Racing-sponsored Irish Laurels will tonight battle it out for a place in the final six of the €30,000 classic.
Unusually, there are three semis with two to qualify from each, which adds further intrigue to this evening's proceedings.
Grangeview Ten has been the favourite for outright glory since the outset and remains at the head of the market despite a lacklustre effort last weekend.
Tonight, the brilliant Produce Stakes winner races from trap two in the second heat and, if returning to his best, can secure a place in the decider. Sliabh Liag stands out as the main danger, although Easter Cup winner Clona Blaze can also threaten.
The opening heat is wide-open affair, although the in-form Doona Buck can emerge as the one to beat if starting on terms. Newinn Lester and Clona Dream are also entitled to respect.
The third heat is a tasty affair with defending champion Rockybay Foley seeking a ninth win on the spin. Remarkably, he has yet to suffer defeat in 2019 but he will be severely tested by 2018 Derby champ Ballyanne Sim. Others, including Coconut Comrades and Joey I Said, are also capable of playing a big part.
The final of the greyhoundaspets.ie Open 600 is the feature at Shelbourne Park and it promises to be a thrilling contest with each of the six runners holding realistic chances.
Much will depend on the opening exchanges, but from a stripes draw Lemon Ozzy is chosen to continue his rise up the ranks at the expense of Skywalker Logan and Ballydoyle Valor.
