The BoyleSports Irish Derby semi-finals served up the classic mix of surprises and fast times on Saturday and Good News has now shot to the top of the betting on the final.

The major shocks were the elimination of Native Chimes, Tyrur Harold and Kilgraney Ace while the star of the show was the Pat Guilfoyle trained Good News as he scorched to victory in the second heat in 29.49.

Good News, which was a finalist in the Scottish Derby, made an early statement in the heat as he flew out of the inside box and led around the bend by a couple of lengths.

Sonic and Jaytee Jet gave chase but Good News is very strong and he won by two lengths from last year's Derby third Sonic with the 2016 English Derby winner Jaytee Jet two and a half lengths third.

Native Chimes and Tyrur Harold disputed the betting in the first semi-final, but they were always fighting a losing battle as Buckos Dream shot clear on the run up.

Black Farren moved second early in the back straight and then began to close on Buckos Dream.

The latter's strides shortened on the run-in and Black Farren raced past to register a length and a half victory over Buckos Dream in 29.63, with Hey Bound third.

TRAP DRAW FOR FINAL - 1 Hey Bound 2 Good News 3 Black Farren 4 Jaytee Jet (w) 5 Buckos Dream (w) 6 Sonic (w).
