'Cruz' set for a follow-up
While the celebrations following Ballyanne Sim's BoyleSports Irish Derby success are still going on at a pace countrywide, the greyhound action tonight will focus on the opening heats of the Shelbourne Open 600 at the Dublin venue.
Elsewhere, the first round of the Agri Stores Fair Warrior Sprint will be run at Mullingar.
The concluding 600 on Derby final night saw the Graham Holland-trained Macaroon Cruz lead all the way for a five-length winning margin in 32.25 and the son of Superior Product can stamp his authority early in the concluding heat this evening.
The first heat will give Margaret Bolton's Beara Gig an opportunity to avenge a few recent unlucky defeats while the second heat gives Larry and Jack O'Shea's Jacks Royale a further opportunity to enhance his reputation.
Also tonight the opening round of the Agri-Stores Fair Warrior Sprint will be run at Mullingar and the traditional two-bend feature has once again attracted a high-class entry through the six heats.
The favourites to win the top prize are likely to be Rosbirr Ranger and Droopys Steel and it will be a surprise if they don't prove the top winners this evening.
The Irish Greyhound Board announced that they are to undertake a comprehensive strategic review of the various facets of the industry in line with the proposals included in the Strategic Plan 2018-2020.
It will examine the infrastructure and financial sustainability of each of the 16 licensed stadia in the country.
