We have come to expect extraordinary performances from Clares Rocket but the Graham Holland-trained machine was truly exceptional on Saturday when winning his Doire Construction Champion Stakes semi-final by seven lengths.

This wasn't just an ordinary victory, it was an annihilation of some of the best greyhounds on either side of the Irish Sea.

Clares Rocket flew out of trap six, hit the bend three lengths in front of UK raider Droopys Buick and extended his advantage all the way as he won by seven lengths in a brilliant 29.19. Fraser Black's Droopys Awesome got up on the line to shade Droopys Buick for second place.

The first heat had produced a surprise result as the Paul Hennessy-trained Mucho Macho Man led all the way for a one-length margin over big finishing Farloe Joey in 29.96.

Then in the third heat the Marie Gilbert-trained Swords Ace made all the running when holding off Highview Event by three parts of a length in 29.73.

The draw for next Saturday's final is: 1 Droopys Awesome, 2 Farloe Joey, 3 Mucho Macho Man, 4 Swords Ace, 5 Clares Rocket (w), 6 Highview Event (w).

Over at Towcester on Saturday night, the Liam Dowling-trained Ballymac Bonnie made a successful start to the defence of her TV Trophy crown when she won her heat easily in 56.55.
