Clares is awesome in produce triumph
Clares Rocket proved to be the certainty he appeared to be in Sunday's BIF National Produce Stakes final at Clonmel and even the toughest of judges were left wondering if he is the best dog they've ever seen.
He was a 1/2 favourite for the €30,000-to-the-winner final and from an early stage the outcome was in no doubt. He did have a serious challenger to the bend in Tom Simpson's Crohane Ronnie but Clares tracked so well around the bend that he was a length and a half in front as the turned into the back.
From there it increased all the time and he raced on to win by six and a half lengths in 28.00 from Liam Dowling's Anopheles, with Crohane Ronnie a half-length third.
The quarter-finals of the English Derby will be run at Wimbledon tonight and there are Irish runners in all four heats, with four involved in Heat 3 where new favourite Jaytee Jet can emerge on top.
Jaytee Dutch and Lenson Rocky should qualify from the first heat, while Blue Cafu is well housed in the second.
The last heat will see the Pat Buckley duo of Lenson Sanchez and Droopys Roddick in action and both can qualify.
