CAROL KENDELLEN will be a very excited racegoer at Harold's Cross tonight when she and the fellow members of the Family Rocks Syndicate will see their first greyhound contest his maiden race in a heat of the Unraced 525.

Carol was the winner of the Irish Independent/Irish Greyhound Board promotion in which the prize was the ownership of a greyhound for a year with many side benefits. The dog was picked by Carol, husband Pat and children and they opted for a young dog from Dolores Ruth's kennels.

The dog has been named Razldazl Al and is a son of Makeshift and Dundooan Diva.

He has done fine in trials and is expected to run a big race in the third heat tonight.

"We are getting very excited. We hope to have a group of seven or eight at Harold's Cross and I am actually getting the chance to present the dog for weigh-in," Carol said.

And how is the dog shaping? Ruth said: "He is in great form and I am expecting him to run very well.

"Preparations have gone well, but with dogs having their first race you never know how things will work out, but he is shaping like a nice early paced dog and hopefully he gets his break."

Razldazl Al (8.24) is nominated to win Heat 3, though Da Vinci Max looks a real threat. Tarbrook Turbo (8.11) and Forest Enya are very interesting runners in Heat 2.

Tonight's Harold's Cross card includes the three first-round heats of the Centra Harold's Cross Irish Grand National with Ruth supplying the likely ante-post favourite in the shape of Razldazl Will (8.50).

However, English challenger Coolavanny Shine has the pace to be a real danger. Dave Standbridge's Hypnotic Reason (9.45) may confirm Curraheen placings with Gallarus Rumble, while Paul Hennessy's Liveanddangerous (9.32) looks the likely winner of Heat 3.

Declan Carey was busy on the phone lines yesterday as he sought entries for the €20,000-to-the-winner Comerford Cakes National Puppy Stake which commences at Shelbourne on Saturday night. By yesterday afternoon, he had just 33 names in the book and he is seeking 72.

The quality of the entry is very high with the confirmed runners including Puppy Derby runner-up Newlawn Impact, Future Champions first and second Kingsmill Sky and Deanridge Penneys as well as Boylesports Hero, Redwood Mick and Redwood Miller, Chancery Shaw, Droopys Daylewis, Move Over Hawk, Borneo, Mustang Messi, Turning Tables, Sidarian Blaze, Cuil Cool, Jacks Ace and Tyrur Arthur.

2,500 POOL

The Pick 4 Jackpot at Harold's Cross this evening will be guaranteed to €2,500.
