'Braveheart' lands Scottish Derby

Braveheart Bobby provided a great boost for Irish greyhounds when an all-the-way winner of the RPGTV Scottish Derby at Shawfield track in Glasgow on Saturday.

Trained by Pat Buckley for Darren McCoy, Braveheart Bobby justified a major betting move on the day as he broke smartly and led all the way for a two-length margin over Cooneen Jack in 28.88. He will now go for the big double in the English Derby which will commence in a few weeks at Nottingham.

Liam Dowling’s Ballymac Arminta was the first-round star in the Sporting Press Irish Oaks at Shelbourne when flying around in 28.11 for a six-and-a-half-length victory over Clounbrane Kerry.

Next best time was the 28.28 from the John Linehan-trained Droopys Alice as she led from halfway when beating No Recollection by two lengths.

The Pat Guilfoyle-trained Skywalker Logan was the fastest semi-final winner in the Larry Clancy Memorial Irish Cesarewitch at Mullingar. He clocked a fastest of the classic 33.16 when beating Dromrich Altair by six-and-a-half lengths.

The other heat was won by Graham Holland’s Totos Park.
