Ballyanne Sim clinches top award
BoyleSports Derby winner Ballyanne Sim was last night crowned Irish Greyhound of the Year at the Greyhound Awards gala held in the Killashee Hotel in Naas.
Minister Andrew Doyle made the presentation to owner Eamon Cleary and trainer James Robinson, while the Bitch of the Year was the Peter Cronin-trained Vancouver.
The other award winners were Ardnasool Jet (Sprint), Javielenko (Stayer), Killer Bee (Future Star), Kinloch Brae (Stud Dog) and Global Liberty (Brood). Ger Kiely was inducted into the Hall of Fame while Bob Shanahan and Tim Keane received Special Merit awards.
The semi-finals of the Gain 600 at Shelbourne were won by Pat Buckley's Droopys Biker in 32.24 and Graham Holland's Lenson Blinder in 32.19.
Meanwhile, the first round of the Kirby Memorial was concluded at Limerick and the stars of the show were Liam Dowling's Ballymac Tas as she won in a near record time of 27.97 and Ballymac Syd as he won in 28.07.
The final of the Bar One Racing.com Irish Sprint Cup will be run at Dundalk on Friday and the favourites are Ardnasool Jet and Cabra Hurricane.
