High expectations were justified in the first round of the Ladbrokes Easter Cup at Shelbourne and the tempo will be increased when the quarter-finals are run tonight.

Just a few spots separated the fastest winners last week and the clocks should be even faster this time.

Now sharing the top of the market with the sponsors are Magical Bale and Slippy Cian, and they should advance to the semi-finals.

Pat Guilfoyle hopes Magical Bale (9.27) will show the benefit of his first-round effort when he contests the first heat from the inside and he can lead all the way from main rival Cushie Jet.

Slippy Cian (9.57) was one of five heat winners for Graham Holland last week and he deserves to be favourite for the heat. But he will have to work hard to lead home Derby hero Ballyanne Sim and Droopys Davy.

Holland's Lenson Blinder (9.42) will be a strong fancy for the second heat but will get a test from Ballymac Anton and Jaytee Jerry while Clonbrien Prince (10.12) is banker material in the final heat.
