'Angel' is flying in Irish Oaks bid

Saturday's quarter-finals of the Sporting Press Irish Oaks produced some spectacular racing at Shelbourne Park, with ante-post favourite Ballymac Arminta justifying her billing in the opening heat. She was headed early, but displayed huge pace to power her way past Droopys Alice, before going on to record an impressive 28.55 success.

However, honour of going fastest went to Mags Angel. The Owen McKenna trained star made it four wins on the bounce by beating Cracking Lady in 28.33.

No Recollection and Ballymac Berry went toe to toe, with the former taking the verdict in 28.60, while in the final heat Luminous Milan came from another parish to deny Boylesports Joy in 28.85.

Cornerhouse Lady produced the performance of her career to win the Lee Strand 550 at Tralee on Saturday. The Paul Hennessy trained bitch was four lengths adrift at halfway, but finished fast to beat the long-time leader Coconut Comrades in a fast 29.86.

In Cork, Rockybay Foley and Spoofer impressed in the Larry O'Rourke Open 525. Rockybay Foley is near unbeatable at the venue and he made all in 28.11, while Spoofer produced a career best to win in 28.00. Doggy Mcdogface (28.24) and Gringos Thunder (28.35) took the remaining heats.
