Most European golf fans were delighted that Danny Willett snatched the Masters last night after a sparkling round of 67 but it was a bittersweet moment for former Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson.

The legendary coach is a huge golf fan, and was enjoying the action at Augusta over the weekend. He even spent some time with the winner after the green jacket ceremony and regaled Willett with the tale of how he lost quite a lot of money after Jordan Spieth's back nine collapse.

"I had £8000 on Spieth," Ferguson told a laughing Willett.

"I'm so delighted. I'm delighted, honestly. Happy to throw it away."

It was a really lovely moment and given how much money Fergie banked during his football career, we don't doubt that he was nonplussed about parting with the cash since the tournament went to a British winner.
