Ulster aim to retain inter-pro title

Ulster will begin their defence of the Women's Inter-provincial Championship today at Royal Co Down, where the championship links course - which measures 6,261 yards, with a par of 76 - will provide a tough test for competitors, who will play both stroke play and match play over three days.

The Ulster team, which includes Curtis Cup star Danielle McVeigh as well as internationals Victoria Bradshaw (Bangor), Louise Coffey (Malone) and Charlene Reid (Royal Portrush), can expect stiff competition from Leinster.

Their team will be led by 2010 Irish Close champion Mary Dowling, who won the Ladies Scratch Salver at Royal County Down last month. The only debutante in the side is Seapoint's Carla Reynolds .

A young Munster team will be spearheaded by Gillian O'Leary (Cork), while Niamh Kitching (Limerick) will once again lead Connacht into battle.
