Laura Webb added yet another title to her growing collection when she cruised to a seven-stroke win in the Irish Senior Women’s Amateur Open at Malone.

The Royal Portrush golfer opened with a one-under-par 72 to lead by five shots and after extending her advantage to six with a second-round 77, she closed with a 78 to win by seven shots on eight-over 227.

Despite four bogeys in six holes around the turn, Webb played the final six holes in level par to cement her grasp on the title. Webb’s trophy cabinet now holds an Irish Girls Close, two Irish Women’s Close titles, a Senior Women’s Close and two British Women’s Senior Open Championships.

“It’s been a fabulous three days,” said Laura, who lines out for Ulster in next week’s Interprovincial matches.

“The course was very fast, which made it interesting. I was pleased to get a great round in on Wednesday, and that set me up for the rest of the competition.

“It was a case of being patient because of the conditions. I had a really good start, and then it was about hanging in there in the hot conditions.”

Headfort’s Maria O’Reilly finished in second place on 234 after a closing 79, with Castletroy’s Shirley Real a shot further back in third.

Co. Louth’s Deirdre Smith and Grange Castle’s Lisa Cullen tied for fourth on 241.

O’Reilly also won the Over 60s prize, finishing eight shots ahead of Portumna’s Suzanne Corcoran.
