Sugrue wins at Castletroy
Mallow international James Sugrue got some competitive practice for the Brabazon Trophy when he won the Bank of Ireland sponsored Castletroy Senior Scratch Cup for the second time in three years.
He followed an opening 68 with a one-under 71 to finish on five-under par 139 and lift the HK Murray Trophy as Clontarf's Pat Murray took second on 144 after rounds of 74 and 70.
Kilkenny's Harry Duggan finished a shot further back after rounds of 73 and 72 with Castletroy's Jack Ryan the leading home player in fourth place after a superb second round 70.
Sugrue tees it up in the Brabazon Trophy at The Alwoodley Golf Club in Leeds today alongside fellow Walker Cup panelists Caolan Rafferty, Conor Purcell and John Murphy with Rowan Lester the fifth Irishman making the trip.
