Fota Island's Greg O'Mahony held off home favourite Peter O'Keeffe to win the Kieran Canty Financial Services sponsored Douglas Senior Scratch Cup.

He finished eagle-birdie to open with a four-under par 68 and lead by a shot from international star O'Keeffe and while the wind got up in the afternoon, he withstood the pressure of leading and posted a three-over 75 to win by a shot from Fermoy's Dean O'Riordan and Nenagh's Scott O'Brien on one-under 143.

"It feels nice to win the Douglas Scratch cup as it's one of the main ones we play in every year," said O'Mahony, who will play the East of Ireland and Connacht Strokeplay Championships over the next few weeks as he bids for a call up to the Munster team for the Interprovincial Matches.

"Some great names are on the trophy including some Irish internationals in recent years so hopefully that might be an omen for me going forward."
