There was Friday night fever at Shandon Park last week as Strabane claimed the Ulster title in the Spanish Tourist Board sponsored Irish Mixed Foursomes for the second time since 2009.

The County Tyrone club had a thrilling 3-2 win over nine-hole Mahee Island, losing the first two matches 4&3 and 2&1 before Conor Sharkey and Bernie O'Kane won 4&3 and Declan Devine and Lisa Patton won 4&2 to level the scores.

All eyes turned to the final tie, where Pete Doherty and Lorna Duffy came back from two down through 11 holes to go two up with three to play.

It all ended on the 17th when Doherty thumped his drive straight down the middle and his partner then found the apron with her approach, setting up a winning par.

Strabane go on to the All Ireland Finals at Shandon Park on September 2, where they will face Connacht champions Gort and continue their bid for the club's first green pennant.
