Sophie Lamb pips Leona Maguire for best amateur at Women's British Open
19-year-old Sophie Lamb has beaten out Leona Maguire as the best amateur at this week's Women's British Open in Fife, Scotland.
Lamb shot a final round of 69 to finish -6 under par, three strokes ahead of Maguire who was crowned the best amateur at last year's Women's British Open.
After successive rounds of 69,71 and 70, Maguire shot a final day round of 75 to finish at -3 under par.
Bogeys on the fifth and ninth, as well as double bogey on the 17th, cost the Cavan native any shot she had at repeating her 2016 feat.
South Korea’s IK Kim held off Jodi Ewart Shadoff of England to claim her first major title in the Women’s British Open, finishing with a final round of 71 to finish -18 under par, two strokes ahead of Shadoff.
