Zeta jones 'date' with Harrington

CATHERINE Zeta Jones to partner Padraig Harrington in Ryder Cup!

Yes, that was the impression some of the Welsh-born actress' American friends had when they heard she was going over to the Ryder Cup.

"I played along with it and said I was going to be playing with Padraig because I played with him in Bermuda and I thought he'd be the perfect golfing partner," said Catherine (right).

Maybe the Ryder Cup isn't as internationally renowned as we might have thought.

Try to avoid Pwll Tywods in Wales

Welsh golfing terms: Y Rhodfa (fairway); Y Lawntydd (green); Pwll Tywod (bunker).

So if you miss the Y Rhodfa, and then also miss the Y Lawntydd and hit the ball into the Pwll Tywod, what do you say then? Whether you're Welsh, Irish or Swedish, in the international vernacular of frustrated golfers, there's only one word for it: "B*****ks!"

Gala evening even makes tiger smile

THE boys and girls of both Ryder Cup teams scrubbed up well for the Gala dinner at Cardiff Castle and the Welcome to Wales concert at the Millennium Stadium.

Over 20,000 people attended the concert at which the headline entertainers were the wonderful classical singer Katherine Jenkins, Oscar winner Catherine Zeta Jones and showbiz legend Dame Shirley Bassey.By all accounts it was a superb night, and even singleton Tiger Woods was seen to smile and look as if he enjoyed the occasion.

Incidentally, the players and wives of the European team were glad to welcome Amy Mickelson, Phil's wife, who is recovering from breast cancer.
