Monty's sunscreen gag lifts crowd

COLIN Montgomerie has been in great mood this week, and rose to the challenge of the horrendous weather at the start of the day.

Monty and vice-captain Paul McGinley were with Padraig Harrington's group and the skipper brought a smile to the weather-beaten fans nearby when he called for the sunscreen to be brought out.

Among those fans was multi-millionaire JP McManus, Harrington's regular partner in the Dunhill Links Pro-Am.

Ian Poulter wasn't far behind his captain in the humour stakes.

As he walked in off the course a spectator shouted, "can I get a refund, there's no golf", and Poulter responded: "Wasn't my putt at the third worth it?"

The colourful Englishman was referring to the 25-footer he holed for a birdie two which put him and partner Ross Fisher one up after three against Steve Stricker and Tiger Woods.
