O'Mahony lifts home 'clubs'

Ireland Club XV 26 Scotland Club XV 21

Ireland withstood a gallant Scottish fightback to retain the Dalriada Cup in an entertaining game at Anglesea Road last night.

The hosts opened the scoring with a Craig Ronaldson penalty and Killian Lett then set up Man of the Match Barry O'Mahony to crash over. Ronaldson failed to add the extras, but made no mistake when converting O'Mahony's second try.

In between, the Scots had replied through Fraser Thomson, with Lee Millar converting. It was 15-7 at the break and Ireland soon widened the gap with a try from Roger McBurney.

The Scots responded with converted tries from Sean Crombie and Ross McKay to cut the lead to 23-21, but a Ronaldson penalty after 71 minutes sealed the victory.
