Team Ireland's Stephanie Meadow and Leona Maguire will renew an old rivalry when they play in the $5 million US Women's Open in Charlotte later this month.

The pair came through their sectional qualifiers to secure starts at The Country Club of Charlotte from May 30 to June 2 - six years after their first-round clash in the US Women's Amateur.

Meadow, who lost 3&2 to Maguire in 2013, found her putting touch at Pinnacle Peak Country Club in Arizona and followed a five-under 67 with a 71 to win the race for two spots.

"It's a nice confidence boost," said Meadow.

Co Cavan star Maguire, at Druids Hills Golf Club in Atlanta, opened with a six-under 66 to share the lead and followed it with a 68 to finish second.

"Boom!! 66-68 to qualify for US open!" Leona tweeted. "Can't wait to play my first Major in Charleston."
