O'Briain closes in on Q-School spot

Royal Dublin's Neil O'Briain just needs to keep his nerve today to secure a place in the final European Tour Qualifying School next week.

With one round remaining in the second stage at La Manga, O'Briain is tied for ninth place with a 54-hole aggregate of 212 after rounds of 69, 72 and 71. He is seven strokes adrift of leader England's Graeme Clark but, with at least 16 places being available from the venue, is in a strong position to claim a spot.

Michael McGeady has left himself with a lot of work as he is on 217 in a share of 32nd place and Colm Moriarty, back on 220, seems out of the hunt.

At Los Collinas, Limerick's Cian McNamara is on 211 in joint 24th. Aaron O'Callaghan and David Higgins are a stroke behind, with Dubliner Niall Kearney another stroke adrift and Brendan McCarroll on 230.

At El Valle in Murcia, there are hopes for Castleknock's Mark Staunton (19th at 211) and Stephen Grant (212) from The Heritage but neither can afford to falter today. Niall Turner has it all to do on 215.
