THE ILGU are seeking a new sponsor for their Open Greensomes tournament now that Lancome have ended their long association with the event.

Over the years the competition has raised over €2m for charity, with €56,000 donated in 2011 -- contestants' preliminary-round entry fees of €20 are donated to a charity of the Lady Captain's choice.

From these preliminary rounds, of which 24 are held around the country, only 56 qualifiers from 50,000 ladies on the golf circuit make it to the final in Kerry.

Among the beneficiaries last year were the Irish Cancer Society, Irish Guide Dogs, Bray Lakers Adults/Children Special Needs, National Breast Cancer Research Institute, Galway Hospice, Galway Contact, East Meath Meals on Wheels, St Vincent De Paul, Parkinsons Association of Ireland, Muscular Dystrophy Ireland, Our Lady's Hospice Harolds Cross and Temple Street Children's Hospital.
