Montgomerie Course to host Euro Amateur

IRELAND will host the International European Amateur Championship for the first time in the event's 25-year history next year.

The Montgomerie Course at Carton House will test the world's hottest amateur prospects from August 8-11.

Rory McIlroy is among the stellar names to have won the European Amateur. His 2006 win was the fourth Irish victory in the championship, following Paddy Gribben in 1998, Stephen Browne in '01 and Brian McElhinney in '03.

Abu Dhabi delight as Woods commits

Tiger Woods will make his debut in the Abu Dhabi Championship next year in what will be his only competitive appearance in the Middle East.

Woods has reshuffled his schedule to play at the $2.7m (€2m) event rather than his usual season-opener, the Farmers Insurance Open in Torrey Pines. Both tournaments are scheduled for January 26-29.

"I've heard a lot about Abu Dhabi and the Championship," Woods said. "I'm looking forward to 2012 and what I hope will be a great year of golf for me."

"We are confident that record crowds will gather to see Tiger make his Abu Dhabi debut in what will be his only competitive Middle East appearance of the year," said Faisal Al Sheikh, events manager at the Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority.

Woods will be joined in Abu Dhabi by reigning Major champions Charl Schwartzel, Rory McIlroy and Darren Clarke.
