Mehaffey stars as Irish survive golf
Ireland will take on leading qualifiers France in Flight A of the European Ladies' Team Championship after securing a top-eight finish in stroke play qualifying.
Royal County Down star Olivia Mehaffey once again led the way with a six-under 66 at Murhof, Austria, which included an eagle on the fifth.
Castlewarden's Lauren Walsh carded 71 and Annabel Wilson (Lurgan) shot a level-par 72. Mairead Martin (Kanturk) and Julie McCarthy (Forrest Little) both scored 75 to leave Ireland on 359 for the round with Paula Grant's 78 not counted. Their overall tally of 713 was just enough to see them take eighth spot, a stroke ahead of Spain.
Over at Kaskada, the boys will also challenge for the title after sealing seventh place on 728. Mark Power (Kilkenny) and Tom McKibbin (Holywood) were the stars as they hit 68 and 69 respectively on the 72-par course.
But the men missed out on Flight A at Bad Saarow, Germany, and will now look to avoid a bottom-three finish in Flight B, which would result in relegation.
The girls also missed out on Flight A in Forsgardens, Sweden.
