McNamara earns place in final four
RISING star Rory McNamara swept impressively into the semi-finals of the North of Ireland Open Amateur Championship at Royal Portrush yesterday.
The Headfort youngster -- who looked sharp at the recent Amateur at Royal Troon and would have qualified for the match-play phase but for one horrendous hole on which he took a quadruple-bogey eight -- lost only one hole (the ninth) in overwhelming Shane McGlynn of Carton House 4&3.
McNamara has a potentially cracking duel this morning against Portmarnock's Geoff Lenehan, who won the first four holes on his way to beating Daniel Vaughan of Ardglass 4&2, having earlier eliminated the highly fancied Reeve Whitson.
The other semi-final will be between Eddie McCormack of Galway and Knock's Michael Sinclair, who disposed of Steffan O'Hara (Co Sligo) and Cormac Sharvin (Ardglass) respectively.
