Mcilroy withdraws from Dubai Desert Classic
When will he play again?
That's the growing concern for Rory McIlroy as he announced his withdrawal from the Dubai Desert Classic to be played from February 2-5.
McIlroy suffered a rib stress fracture at the SA Open and opted out of the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship last week. His next tournament was to have been in Dubai as part of his build-up to the Masters, but according to medical experts, this type of rib injury takes four to six weeks to heal, and cannot be rushed.
Meanwhile, Ireland's Seamus Power earned the biggest cheque of his PGA Tour career to date when he finished tied-21 in the CareerBuilder Challenge, winning $62,640 (€58,317).
Power moved to 84 on the FedEx Cup rankings from 109, and to 317 from 341 in the World rankings.
Padraig Harrington returns to action at Torrey Pines this week, while Graeme McDowell and Paul Dunne play in Qatar on the European Tour.
