After missing out on the career grand slam at the Masters, Rory McIlroy will partner the next two players with a chance to achieve the feat in next week's US Open.

McIlroy, who needs to win at Augusta to complete a full set of Major titles, will play alongside Phil Mickelson and Jordan Spieth in the first two rounds at Shinnecock Hills, starting at 1.02pm (Irish time) on Thursday. Mickelson, who has finished runner-up a record six times, can complete the grand slam with victory in the US Open, while Spieth's missing Major is the US PGA Championship.

The other stellar group in the field sees world No 1 Justin Thomas alongside 2016 champion Dustin Johnson and 14-time Major winner Tiger Woods getting under way at 6.47pm.

The other Irish contenders are among the later starters on day one with former champion Graeme McDowell alongside Lucas Glover and Webb Simpson at 6.25pm, while Shane Lowry, who qualified this week, starts at 7.09pm with American Chez Reavie and a qualifier from this week's St Jude Classic where Seamus Power enjoyed a fine five-under-par opening round of 65 last night.
