McIlroy has head for major heights

YES, Rory McIlroy is a streaky putter.

And yes, it cost him dearly on Sunday afternoon in Dubai. Yet resist any temptation to think he might be headed down the same sorry path as Sergio Garcia.

Despite the fact that 'El Nino' won five times on either side of the pond by age 21 and McIlroy has done the business just twice, technically and temperamentally the Holywood youngster is leagues ahead of Garcia at the same age.

Nobody swings a golf club or strikes the ball better than McIlroy -- remember, Garcia had to resolve issues with his swing in his early 20s.

Meanwhile, McIlroy is tougher mentally than the Spaniard. He showed with his defiant performance at the height of a desert wind storm last Saturday how much he has matured, even since last summer's British Open at St Andrews.

When his dander is up, as it was at Quail Hollow last May, McIlroy will win Majors -- plural. He and the rest of us simply have to be patient.
