Maguire twins just off pace
Teenage twins Leona and Lisa Maguire made solid starts at the European Ladies Individual Amateur Championship in the Netherlands yesterday.
The 16-year-olds both fired one-over-par 73s over the Noordwijkse course and they lie just two strokes off the first-round pace.
Danielle McVeigh, the 2009 Irish Open stroke-play champion from Royal County Down, left herself with a lot to do after an unhappy 80, which included a double-bogey at the seventh and six bogeys on the back nine.
Gillian O'Leary and Stephanie Meadow took 78, Emma O'Driscoll 81 and Charlene Reid 84. Spaniard Marta Silva, the only player to break par, set the pace with a 71.
The European Young Masters tournament begins at the Royal Balaton Club in Hungary today, with Hannah Henderson, Olivia Mehaffey, Luke Woods and Paul McBride representing Ireland.
