Maguire sisters relishing return to action after exams

The Maguire twins return to competitive action today in the European Ladies Individual Championship in Estonia after missing several events.
The Co Cavan pair did not feature in the Curtis Cup and missed both the British Ladies Open Amateur Championship in Kent and the European Team Championships, explaining that they had just finished their Leaving Cert and would not be sufficiently prepared.
Leona and Lisa (19), from Slieve Russell – who have opted for a golf scholarship at Duke University in North Carolina rather than taking the plunge into the pro ranks – are raring to go in the 72-hole Euro contest.
They are among five Irish players in the 138-strong field in Estonia, the others being Irish champion Paula Grant, Chloe Ryan and teenage sensation Olivia Mehaffey.
Meanwhile, Irish players had no success in their attempts to qualify for the British Seniors Open Championship, which starts tomorrow at Royal Porthcawl.
At Pyle and Kenfig, John O'Brien, Peter O'Hagan and Gerry Burke missed out while Northern Ireland's Frank O'Donoghue failed at Southerndown and Steve Hatton and Michael Wolseley were wide of the mark at Ashburnham.
