Maguire leads drive for Turkey delight

THE ILGU elite and the cream of the grassroots women's game take to the fairways this week in search of glory.

Over in Turkey, Leona Maguire, Stephanie Meadow and Paula Gorman contest the Espirito Santo Trophy, the World Team championship, starting tomorrow.

Closer to home, Courtown Golf Club is the venue for the Private Home Care National Inter-Club finals, which tee off today.

Thirty teams from across the country, six from each of the five ILGU Districts -- Ulster, Munster, Connacht, East Leinster and Mid Leinster -- will be represented at the finals.

Munster's Castletroy GC has an unprecedented four teams through to the 2012 All-Ireland finals after winning district pennants in the Junior and Senior Foursomes as well as in the Junior and Challenge Cups.

The club will be looking to add to their only previous national title -- the Challenge Cup in 2009.

Malone reached the All-Ireland finals of the Minor Cup in 2010 and this year the club has teams in both the Intermediate Cup and Senior Foursomes.

Hermitage, the East Leinster winners of the Senior Foursomes, Glen of the Downs (Junior Foursomes) and St Anne's (Minor Cup) are all first timers at these finals.

Ballinasloe, the Senior Foursomes district champions who have never previously reached the national finals, are the only Connacht club at Courtown.
